Nottingham man amongst Britain’s most wanted faces shown on screens in Spain

Faces of Britain’s most wanted men are being shown on screens around Spain in an attempt to flush them out of the country, including John Barton from Nottingham.

Crimestoppers have handed out photos of some of Britain’s most wanted fugitives, their pictures are being displayed on a 13 foot high digital screen attached to the back of a van.

The van is being driven around popular areas in Spain in an attempt to flush out the suspects who are believed to have fled to areas such as Benidorm, Malaga and Puerto Banus.

The new initive is called Operation Captura and will broadcast images of 18 men who are being sought in connection with a range of crimes.

One of the men believed to be hiding in Spain is John Barton from Nottingham.

John was rumoured to be in the Costa Del Sol region of Spain in 2008. He went missing after he was convicted in his absence of planning to smuggle £10 million of heroin.

Roger Critchell, Director of Operations for Crimestoppers, said: “This is something that we have never done before but we believe that broadcasting these fugitives’ faces right in their back yards will not only encourage the public to speak up but show these individuals that there really is nowhere to hide.”

So far 68 out of 86 wanted individuals have been apprehended.
