Notts County Ladies chief exec: ‘There are not many black faces in football boardrooms’

Video: Matt Alexander’s thoughts on why there are not more black managers

Notts County Ladies chief executive Matthew Alexander thinks that there are not enough ‘black faces’ in football boardrooms.

Named as one of the most influential black people in British football, the former chief scout and football agent appears as the special guest on this week’s edition of Sports Week.

Matthew took over as chief exec of the Ladypies in December 2015 after Luke Negus-Hill resigned from the position.

When asked about why there aren’t more black managers in football, Matthew said: “I look towards the boardrooms and the people who are making the decisions.

“I worry that there’s not many black faces in the boardrooms and decision makers.

“I’m one of those people that likes making decisions; I like being able to influence the game and if you have more mixed race people in the boardrooms, it can only benefit decision making.”

My dad was on the very first one

He also spoke about being on the list of the most influential black people in British football, known as the ‘Black List.’

He said: “It’s a huge honour; I got a phone call saying that I was going to be on this year’s list and I’m really proud to be on it.

“It’s something that I’ve looked at in the past and seen my dad on who was on the very first one.

“For me to be on it on a different level and on a different side of football, that’s good.”

Also appearing on Sports Week is Richard Whitehead who speaks about his future Paralympic plans.

There will be action from the weekend’s Robin Hood Marathon, hear from the Sneinton based skateboarding super kid with Olympic aspirations and the A to Z of sport drops in on local world championship kick boxers.
