Notts County say club’s transfer embargo has been lifted

A transfer embargo imposed on Notts County over unpaid bills has been lifted, the club says.

The Magpies were hit with the temporary measure last month – but officials assured fans the arrangement was temporary while payments were scheduled.

A club spokesman told Notts TV News on Friday that the ban has now been lifted.

The development eases the job of new manager John Sheridan, who is expected to sign a number of new players in the summer.

The club are currently up for sale, but will be taken off the market by owner Ray Trew if a buyer has not been confirmed by the end of this month.

In a statement last month chief executive Jason Turner said the Magpies had settled an outstanding bill with HMRC in April.

But he added at the time: “As with any other business in the course of a potential sale, it is not unusual for creditor payments to be extended whilst discussions are ongoing with potential investors.

“I can confirm that all outstanding liabilities to HMRC were settled prior to the original court date in April and no monies are currently overdue.

“Football League rules state that clubs failing to meet HMRC payments or football creditor debts on time are automatically temporarily embargoed until such time as these payments are settled.”
