Notts County v Leyton Orient: Jamie Fullarton and Jon Stead press conference

Video: Jon Stead says the play-offs are still achievable for the Magpies

It seems like an age has gone by since Jamie Fullarton’s first game at Meadow Lane, with the wet weather postponing The Magpies hosting of Hartlepool two weeks ago.

They are back at home this Saturday against Leyton Orient following away wins at Hartlepool and Luton a defeat at York.

Fullarton was keen to thank Magpie supporters for the role they played on Tuesday night in the club’s 3-2 victory at Hartlepool.

Experienced forward Stead put his recent goalscoring record down to a change of position and thanked manager Fullarton for giving him the opportunity to play in his preferred striking role.

He said: “I think it’s because I am playing a bit more central and a bit higher up the pitch and getting myself in a few more goalscoring positions and taking my chances.

“I don’t think I’ve been missing a lot of chances this season, it’s just been trying to get them and in decent goalscoring positions.

“I seem to be doing that at the moment and that’s good because I want to be scoring and I want to be winning games.”

Former gaffer Ricardo Moniz often employed Stead in a deeper ‘number 10′ role but the 32-year-old is thrilled to be playing regularly alongside Izale McLeod, who he has now passed on the goalscoring chart, following his brace midweek.

The Magpies will face a stern test against an Orient side who have won three of their last five games, including a victory at Fratton Park against high-flying Portsmouth although they were thrashed 4-0 last time out by Northampton Town.

SkyBet League 2 Top goalscorer Jay Simpson has 22 goals already this season for Orient and will be looking to add to that total at Meadow Lane.

Gary Mackenzie is expected to make his home debut tomorrow and will be looking to make a good impression by shackling Simpson in front of the Magpies’ faithful.

You can hear more from Fullarton and Stead on Notts TV News tonight at 5.30 and 6.00pm.
