Nottingham woman injured at work wins thousands of pounds in McDonald’s compensation after three-year battle

A Nottingham woman has won thousands of pounds in compensation from McDonald’s after slipping over at work three years ago.

Libby Gifford, 20, was working at the Rush Green McDonald’s in Hertford in 2014 when she slipped on a wet floor and damaged her lower back, which meant she could not work for a week.

There was no sign in place warning that the floor was slippery, which is a health and safety requirement in the workplace.

After receiving physio treatment Miss Gifford asked her manager for compensation, which was refused, so she decided to make a legal claim against McDonald’s. It has taken three years to settle.

On January 19 2017 she was told by Hayward Baker, her personal injury solicitors, that they had settled her claim for the sum of £2,500.

McDonald’s agreed to settle out of court without admitting liability.

Miss Gifford said: “I am really happy that this is all over and I have the compensation that I deserve.

“I slipped and fell straight on my backside and it was quite embarrassing as everyone started laughing.

“I damaged my coccyx, was off work for a week and had trouble sleeping.

“After it happened there wasn’t any pain initially but then my back seized up and it hurt to sit still for long periods.

“It has taken a while but I am glad an agreement could be reached.”

The coccyx, commonly known as the tailbone, can be damaged if you suffer a hard impact to the base of the spine.

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “This matter was resolved out of court with both parties in agreement. We’re unable to comment further.”
