Nottingham Forest boss Philippe Montanier thinks the Reds will be in a good position for a cup run if they win against Millwall.

The Reds travel to The Den tonight (Tuesday August 23) in the second round of the EFL Cup after winning 2-1 at Doncaster in the first round.

Montanier is treating the EFL Cup seriously and reiterated his desire to win the competition after having previously said he wants to win it to qualify for Europe.

It will be very tough but I’m a dreamer

He said: “Our priority while we’re in this cup is to try and win it; it will be very tough but I am a dreamer.

“I know it’s possible but Millwall is not the best place to have a tie.

“If you can qualify against Millwall, you can have good hope for the future of this competition.”

The last time the two teams met competitively was in the Championship on January 31 2015, the season Millwall were relegated.

However Millwall won 1-0 at the City Ground with Ricardo Fuller scoring the winner for the Lions in the 83rd minute.

The last time the sides met at The Den was in a 0-0 draw, also in the Championship, on September 20 2014.

At that point in the season Forest were top of the table after eight games with 18 points but went on to finish 14th with 59 points.
