PREVIEW: Notts County looking for improved performance against Plymouth

Video: New signing John Sheridan and Louis Laing on the test Plymouth will bring

Notts County will be hoping for their first competitive win in the new campaign as Plymouth visit Meadow Lane tonight (Tuesday August 16).

The Magpies got their first points of the weekend at home to Stevenage on Saturday (August 13) after striker Jon Stead cancelled out the opening goal from Ben Kennedy

Manager John Sheridan said that County have not played well and are looking to put that right against Plymouth.

We need to do a lot better

He said: “There’s no excuses – they can look for excuses all they want players but we need to get on with it.

“I’ve been a player and looked for them but we didn’t play well – I know that, the players know that and the fans now that.

“We need to do a lot better.”

I expect us to fly through

Defender Louis Laing was announced as a signing for County yesterday (Monday August 15) on a season long loan from Motherwell and believes County just need to get the ball rolling.

He said: “The main thing is getting wins and once we get a win here, we’ll get a bit of confidence and I expect us to fly through.

“I’m just hoping to prevent goals, that’s my main aim, I’m a defender and I want to stop goals going in.

“If I can play out from the back and showcase what else I’ve got that would be great too.”
