PREVIEW: Notts County manager John Sheridan praises opposing boss Craig Hignett

Ahead of Notts County’s away game with Hartlepool this weekend, John Sheridan praised the man opposing him in the dugout.

Sheridan is impressed with the way that Hartlepool manager Craig Hignett has handled the club and the way he has got the team playing.

The Magpies play Hartlepool away at Victoria Park tomorrow (Saturday August 20) at 3pm.

I like the way Hartlepool play and Craig Hignett is a good lad

He said: “I like the way Hartlepool play and Craig Hignett is a good lad, he’s got some good players.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game and I couldn’t tell you who’s going to be up and down there at the end of the season.

“I think all teams are going to be taking points off each other which is good because if you can get on a good run yourselves, you can climb seven or eight places.”

Notts County currently sit 21st in League Two and have not won a competitive game yet this season, with one draw and three losses across all competitions.

Hartlepool are 7th at the moment after recording a win and two draws from their three league games with a goal difference of plus one.

Hartlepool have scored the equal most goals in League Two so far but have conceded the same amount as the Magpies, with both teams letting in five.

Last season Notts County secured the double over Hartlepool, winning against them both home and away in the league.

The Magpies were due to play at Victoria Park on Boxing Day last year but the match was postponed following a waterlogged pitch.

The match was rescheduled for February where County won 3-2 courtesy of a late winner from Jon Stead, who scored two in the game.

Jon Stead also scored the winner in the reverse fixture in April where the Magpies beat Hartlepool 1-0 at Meadow Lane.
