Cult TV show Stranger Things takes over vintage shop windows in Nottingham

Shops in Nottingham have been transforming windows and recreating the signature styles of popular characters from a hit TV series returning this month.

A new series of ‘Stranger Things’ debuts on video streaming service Netflix on October 27, following a group of young friends and their families facing another ‘dimension’ in space and time.

Set in the late 1980’s, the show’s style has created a cult following and particularly attracts vintage shops and fashion lovers.

Manager of the Sue Ryder charity shop in Hockley, Amy Coulson, said: “I had the idea last year and we threw together a really quick go of it…and this year with the second series coming out at the end of October I wanted to do it again because I know people really loved it and really connected with it”.

“There’s a lot of young, creative people [in Nottingham], and they really love the nostalgia of it.”

Amy Coulson wanted to bring back the window for a second year at the Sue Ryder charity shop.

“It’s fun, and it’s creepy and it’s everything you want from a really good TV series”.

Another of Nottingham’s shops that has been creative with the theme is Cow clothing on Carlton Street. Supervisor Daisy Zielinski-Raynor recently became a fan of the series and wanted to recreate the characters’ looks.

“I’ve only recently just watched it and I didn’t realise how popular it was considering it came out a year ago now,” she said.

Supervisor Daisy wanted to accurately recreate the looks of the characters at Cow Clothing.

“There’s just so many iconic things in it that are so recognisable.

“We did alot of research like looking at loads of pictures of characters in different scenes and trying to get their most iconic looks…we did extra things like getting the wigs to make [the outfits] look like the characters.

“It’s perfect as it’s set in the late eighties and a lot of our stock is original eighties stuff so it ties in really well together.”

Other big name brands have also been taking on the theme, with Louis Vuitton showing its range of Stranger Things t-shirts at its latest runway event, and Topshop also making clothing for fans.

Season 2 of ‘Stranger Things’ comes to Netflix on Friday, October 27.
