Stuart Pearce will play what is expected to be his only game for non-league Longford AFC on Saturday after announcing a shock return to football.
He will make his debut for the Gloucestershire side against Smiths Athletic.
Pearce, 53, announced last month he was briefly coming out of retirement to promote grass roots football.
Longford have been labelled ‘the worst team in England’ after shipping almost 200 goals in 20 games this season and remaining winless throughout that run.
They are hoping that former Forest left-back and England international can help them end the run and bring a much-needed boost to the club’s infrastructure.
His announcement created a huge buzz around the club and got a big reaction on social media.
Pearce said at his unveiling: “I started out in non-league football playing for Wealdstone before joining Coventry City so I’m looking forward to working with manager Nick Dawe, and helping a group of talented young footballers achieve their dreams.”
He last played professionally more than a decade ago in the Championship for Manchester City.
