Tony Fisher murder: Tributes paid to ‘a great friend’

Friends have paid tribute to Carlton man Tony Fisher after he was stabbed to death in a suspected break-in at his home.

Detectives are hunting the 58-year-old’s killer and believe he may have been targeted by thieves who thought he had cash stashed in the house.

David Laing, a family friend who laid flowers outside the house in Coningswath Road, said: “I’ve known Tony and the family for 30 years – I can’t believe it’s happened, it’s a big shock to everyone.

“Tony was a great friend, Yom as we’d like to know him, he was just a great friend for many years. Yom kept himself to himself, he was a working class fella looking forward to his retirement.

“We always used to go out on a Friday night having drinks and jokes, Tony was one of the main guys, a great friend, it’s a sad loss.

“This could happen to anybody, it’s the world we live in today. I’m just sad to say it just happened to be Tony.”
