Top Valley Academy rebuild given the go-ahead

Permission has been granted by Nottingham City Council for a new school to be built on the site of Top Valley Academy.

Plans for a new £18 million academy have been approved after a 10 year battle, despite concerns by some local residents.

Some of the local community started a petition for the school’s playing fields to be moved away from residential areas, due to noise and disturbances.

The existing Top Valley Academy building opened in 1972, plans for the school to be replaced have been on going since 2006.

The previous plan was cancelled back in 2010, but the Academy are delighted that the new building will go ahead after a long campaign.

After a long struggle our students will finally get what they deserve, a building fit for purpose with modern resources and facilities. It puts a smile on all our faces.

The school will hold 900 students and the new building is set to include a new dance hall and sports hall as well as several other state of the art facilities.

Alan Clarke, City Councillor for the Bulwell Forest ward said: “There is a huge crack in the middle of the current sports hall floor and if it’s not knocked down in the next few years, they will be without an indoor sports hall.

“A new sports hall would be great, new facilities, all the modern uses of the school. That’s seen as a positive by all local residents.”

It is said that work on the site could start as early as August and is on course to be ready by September 2017.
