A volunteer group from Nottingham is saving lives on two wheels by transporting blood and other urgent resources for the NHS on motorbikes.

Nottingham Blood Bikers volunteer to transport vital resources to and from where they need to be across the county.

The group has been transporting blood for a year and do not charge the NHS a penny for their service.

Chair of the Nottingham Blood Bikes David Mottram said: “We went live with blood this time last year.

“We are totally free to the NHS, we do not charge them a penny, everything done is free to the user.

“We run on donations so we stand outside supermarkets to fundraise and do bits and pieces like that.”

NHS staff members have noticed the difference since the Blood Bikes began their service.

Annie Clarke said: “The main thing that has helped us out is the cost because prior to this we were using taxis.

“It would cost quite a chunk to get to places across the county but the bikers come out and help us day and night, mostly in the night, rain or shine.”
