Website lists Nottingham as top student sex city

Nottingham student sex site top city

Nottingham has come out on top of a list of British cities where the most students are logging on to a website for casual sex.

The city came first in a geographical break-down of users published by the site, which markets itself as an “adult dating platform” for people in university life.

Around 1,477 people are logging on daily in Nottingham, ahead of Leeds in second on 1,410.

Leicester was the only other city in the East Midlands to make the list, on 721 people a day.

The website was founded by entrepreneur Tom Thurlow in 2012, and has a sister site which promotes longer-term relationships.

He said: “I think sites like these play an important role in promoting the importance of safe sex within the student community and I’m pleased we are able to do that and remove the stigma around casual sex.”

It comes after a Nottingham doctor urged more young people to practice safe sex over concerns dating apps could be contributing to a rise in STIs.

Dr Marcus Bicknell, a GP at Beechdale Surgery, Bilborough, said he was worried some people could be getting infections after meeting someone using the technology.

He said last month: “It creates issues about your sexual health, If you’ve got people who have never met before who are meeting just for sex.

“I think it’s a bit scary – and people need to be careful.”

More than 61,000 students attend both the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University – one of the highest student populations in the UK.
