The world’s oldest active boxer from Nottinghamshire will take on the second oldest boxer in one of his last-ever fights.

60-year-old Steve Ward will fight 59-year-old Mike Palmer, the man he reclaimed the Guinness World Record from last year, in Mansfield to bring the curtain down on his boxing career.

PalmerĀ is flying over from the USA to fight Ward on April 8 2017.

Steve Ward called out Mike Palmer by saying: “My speed is going to be far too much for you to contend with.

“I fight for Mansfield, and Nottingham, and more to the point, I fight for England.

“He took the record from me as I was injured but of course, being British, we’ve got to fight to the end and I got it back in December, and he’s a bit upset about it.”

Evans said he has been training hard and has a plan on how to attack Palmer.

HeĀ said: “I’m training seven hours a day and I wonder how much he’s doing.

“I’m doing a lot of bodywork too because that will be the beating of him, the definite beating of him.

“He’s got a good reach, he’s methodical but he leaves that right hand out for a long time.”
