Sir Ken Dodd, one of the most famous and popular British comedians in history, has died aged 90.
The Liverpudlian had recently left hospital after treatment for a chest infection.
He made his professional debut in Nottingham in 1954, at the Empire Theatre, which was later demolished and replaced by the Royal Concert Hall. He opened the refurbished Theatre Royal next door in 1978.
On Monday, Robert Sanderson, director of the Hall and the Theatre Royal, paid tribute to him.
