A boy pictured snorkelling in the Old Market Square fountain has become an unwitting social media sensation.
Beth Sharples took a photo of the boy on Tuesday and tweeted it as @bethhsharples, saying: “There’s a kid snorkelling in the fountains at Notts market square, I’m done.”
Since then it has attracted more than 2,000 re-tweets and nearly 5,000 likes.
Hundreds of people have also shared the picture on Facebook and commented on it, and some have even made Nottingham-themed memes of it.
Beth said: “I’ve seen some of the reactions, I sat last night reading them and they were pretty funny.
“I’ve had to turn off all the notifications though because it’s just gone crazy, so I don’t see many now.”
Nat Whittall said on Facebook: “It’s keeping them out of trouble, what a bit of fun now days, good on them for using their imagination.”
Another user wrote: “If you can’t get to the sea then why not? Brilliant!”

Beth added: “I was originally only taking it as a Snapchat to send to a friend but then l decided to put it on Twitter because I thought it was quite relatable as the fountains are always full of kids and it made me laugh.
“He was probably around seven or nine I only quickly took it in passing though, so I’m not sure.”
