Video: Carl Froch chats to Notts TV on life outside of the ring
Former super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has played down previous reports of a 2016 comeback.
The 38-year-old returned to Nottingham arena today, scene of many of his greatest nights, including his IBF-title winning night against Lucian Bute in 2012.
The newly-named Motorpoint Arena, has undergone a multi-million pound re-branding.
And ‘The Cobra’ spoke to Notts TV about his life after boxing, saying he was keeping busy and a return is not on the cards.
Last year he was quoted as saying he could fight again – if the venue and opponent were right.
But today he said: “I’m enjoying retirement in the sense that I get to spend more time with my kids and I’m not having to watch my diet so much.”
He added: “There’s absolutely zero possibility [of a comeback].”
Only one thing could tempt him to put the gloves on again – an almost-impossible match-up with an old rival.
“The only way that I would probably fight again is if Joe Calzaghe decided to come out of retirement because I genuinely do not like the guy,” he said.
“He still talks a lot of rubbish, even though he has no intention of coming out of retirement.”
I’ve never been so busy since retiring
Now 43, Welshman Calzaghe retired in 2009 with a perfect record, but never fought Froch, and the two have always clashed verbally.
“I’ve never been so busy since retiring, so that word ‘retirement’ is overrated. I don’t box any more, I’m no longer a professional boxer but I’m still very very busy, ” added Froch, who was born in Gedling.
Froch, who last fought in May 2014, is now a regular pundit for boxing coverage on Sky Sports, as well as being involved in sponsorship deals and poker tournaments.
