Chris Broad is raising awareness for a personal Nottingham charity

Former Nottinghamshire and England Batsman Chris Broad hopes that more awareness can be raised about Motor Neurone Disease during the Ashes Test match in Nottingham.

The Broad Appeal was set up by Chris along with his son Stuart and his daughter Gemma.

They decided to set the charity up after Chris’ wife Miche died in 2010, after suffering from Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Broad explained that it’s about making the campaign public.

He said: “It’s about getting awareness out there and we have been fortunate to use the large replay screen in here and have a video put on it about Motor Neurone Disease and some announcements around the ground.”

During the Ashes Test in Nottingham, The Broad Appeal has been aided by both the ECB and Nottinghamshire CCC in order to share their story.

“Notts have been brilliant to us, the ECB have been fantastic for us as well for allowing us to do this.”

“It’s an incurable disease at the moment and the scientists need all the money they can get to try and find a cure.”

There has also been an online campaign that the family has set up.

The #broadappealselfie encourages people to download a set of the charity’s logos from their website, wear them as eyebrows and a moustache and upload a picture to Twitter to spread awareness of the charity.
