Employment figures rise again in Notts

The amount of people employed in the East Midlands has risen along with the amount of people unemployed falling as a result.

The figures, provided by the Office of National Statistics, show that over 34,000 more people are in employment in the period of April to June this year when compared to last.

The East Midlands region features Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Leicester, Leicestershire, Derby and Derbyshire.

However Nottingham city recorded a rise in the number of people claiming job seeker’s allowance in July compared to June with a rise of 15 people.

695 less people claimed job seekers allowance in July this year compared to last.

Chief executive of the East Midlands Chamber Scott Knowles said: “These figures remain very positive and show that, despite the uncertainty leading up to the referendum, businesses continued to recruit before the vote and immediately afterwards in July.

“Much of this recruitment will have been planned before the referendum and there have been reports claiming recruitment has fallen since the vote.

“Next month’s figures will probably be the first real indication of how businesses reacted to the vote to leave the EU.”
