Fire breaks out in Langar Pub

Fire-fighters attended the Unicorn’s Head pub during the early hours of this morning.

The fire engulfed the first floor of the seventeenth century pub at around 6.10am.

Nottinghamshire fire and rescue were called to the fire at around 6.20am with four fire engines, two specials and a command unit.

The pub’s Landlady and husband were both in the building when the fire broke out, but luckily both were safely evacuated and did not sustain any injuries.

The pub was built in 1717 and is a Grade 2 listed building, which caused problems for the Fire Service who had to take evasive action to resolve the fire that had spread further due to straw insulation in the loft.

Simon Godson, the Operations Director at Everards Brewery described the incident as ‘devastating’.

He said: “I went straight to site predominately to support friends and family of Jeremy and Beth who run the pub.”

“Obviously as you can imagine they were watching helplessly from the car park as the fire brigade arrived.”

Mr Godson said that the pub was the centre of the Langar community and people have been extremely supportive.

“It was lovely as some people in the near by houses were making tea and using toilets etc”.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and investigations have now began in an attempt to establish how the fire was started.
