Police investigating a road crash which killed a 14-year-old cyclist say they have recovered a ‘vehicle of interest’.

Jack Archer died after he was struck by a car while riding his bike along Chapel Lane, Binghqam, on Monday night.

The vehicle involved was not at the scene when police arrived and detectives have been treating the incident as a hit-and-run.

Notts Police launched an appeal for information and have been closely examining the area of the crash as they try to identify the driver and find the car involved.

They also want to trace people in a second car who may have vital information.

Officers believe shortly before the collision Jack was overtaken by a dark-coloured Audi Q5 or Q7-type car, which was not involved.

However, it is thought the Audi driver may have seen the vehicle which was responsible.

Deputy senior investigating officer Sgt Ash Thornton said: “We have identified and recovered a vehicle of interest in the past 24 hours as a result of information from the public.

“We still hope to be able to trace the occupants of the Audi-type car which overtook the victim as he cycled along Chapel Lane before another vehicle was in collision with his bike.

“They may have vital witness information which can help us and the victim’s family understand how this collision occurred.”

Flowers have been left at the scene and hundreds of tributes have been posted online

Jack, from Newton, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at about 10.10pm.

A 28-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision has been questioned by officers and bailed pending further enquiries.

Sgt Thornton added: “The response from the public to our appeals for information has been very positive and has helped us to make real progress in this investigation.

“The whole investigative team would like to thank everyone who has called in to help so far.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Notts Police on 101 quoting incident number 983 of July 25.
