Library exhibits century old material on Sherwood Forest

Bromley House Library has pulled together old books and manuscripts on Sherwood Forest in an exhibition now open to the public.

Books and manuscripts are now on display for the public at Bromley House Library, some of which are centuries old.

Normally only librarians and researchers can handle books that are this rare and unique, but as part of the exhibition visitors will get the chance to go through the centuries old pages of the manuscripts.

Into The Woods is the exhibition at the library based on Sherwood Forest’s history.

The manuscripts reveal how Sherwood Forest once covered a fifth of the county and even stretched to the city walls.

Video: Frances Potts, a Library Assistant, explains why these books are unique.

The material also describes how people lived in the olden days when it wasn’t just a woodland but a vast area of land owned by the king.

The library is also doing a series of talks about the archaeology and ecology of the forest to give a glimpse into the regions rural history.
