21:36 – ANALYSIS A good win for the Outlaws who are now unbeaten in their opening two games of the Royal London One Day Cup following their successes against Northamptonshire and now Warwickshire. The game always felt as though Nottinghamshire had the edge on the run rate which only swelled as the game went on. A fantastic knock by Michael Lumb, setting the tone for the Outlaws achieving over 400 runs in a one day innings again with the bowlers then managing to defend it, this time a little more comfortably. The full scorecard and match summary are to follow.

21:27 – RESULT Nottinghamshire Outlaws beat Warwickshire Bears by 36 runs.
21:26 Over 50 Warks 379 all out Mullaney to bowl the final over. Hannon-Dalby plays to short third man for one to get Jones on strike who top edges the next ball for four over short third man! Mullaney responds by clean bowling him next ball!
21:23 Over 49 Warks 374/9 Hannon-Dalby 4 Jones 22 It looks as if Jones wants to bat higher up the order in future, playing a ramp shot wide of fine leg for four! He then hits another to deep mid-wicket for another single. Hannon-Dalby wafts at one outside off which goes straight through to Wessels. He then hits two before netting a single to give the strike back to Jones. That brings the run rate above 36. Jones then hits a lovely shot through mid-wicket for four more.
21:19 Over 48 Warks 362/9 Hannon-Dalby 1 Jones 13 Gurney to bowl his final over. He goes for a single off of Jones before taking the wicket of Patel. Jones then clubs the next ball to deep mid-wicket aerially for a single. Hannon-Dalby’s first ball is dispatched for a single to square leg to get him off the mark. Jones then hits a ball through the covers unintentionally as he aims for the legside but it races away for a boundary as he reaches double figures. A single to finish. Gurney has bowled well today and finishes with figures of 10-58-3.
21:13 Over 47 Warks 354/8 Javid 20 Jones 6 Luke Fletcher returns to the attack. Three singles from the first three balls until Jones hits a lovely lofted shot through mid-wicket for a one bounce four. A single to follow before the last ball is hit for a well run two.
21:09 Over 46 Warks 344/8 Javid 16 Jones 0 Javid hits the opening ball of Gurney’s ninth over for one. Ambrose then hits a four through the covers before being caught at mid-off! Gurney bounces Patel first up. Gurney then clean bowls Patel as he looks to slog through the legside. Wonderful delivery! Richard Jones steps in to face and Gurney oversteps with the batsmen running a leg bye. We have a free hit! Jones can only hit it for a single to mid off. The Bears need 72 off 24.
21:02 Over 45 Warks 335/6 Javid 14 Ambrose 69 Hutton starts his last over with a full toss that only yields two. Ambrose then hits the ball very hard only for it to take out middle stump at the bowler’s end! Instead of a potential four, only one is scored. A single follows from Javid before Ambrose hits aerially through square leg for four. The over finishes with Ambrose hitting the ball back past the bowler for four. Hutton finishes with figures of 10-0-72-1. An expensive end.
20:57 Over 44 Warks 319/6 Javid 13 Ambrose 54 Gurney returns and his first two balls go for singles followed by a dot. Ambrose then cuts the ball to the man at deep point for a single. A superb bouncer by Gurney ties Javid in knots and he doesn’t know what to do with it before hitting to point to end the over with a single. Just four from that one. It seems a formality now for the home side.
20:53 Over 43 Warks 314/6 Javid 10 Ambrose 52 Hutton’s ninth over is tight enough at this stage, conceding just seven runs. Ambrose gets to a quickfire 50. The 50 partnership for the seventh wicket also comes up off just 25 balls with the penultimate ball. The Bears need 102 runs from 42 balls at a rate of 14.57 per over.
20:49 Over 42 Warks 307/6 Javid 7 Ambrose 48 Ambrose is giving this a go. Javid opens with a single before Ambrose hits a dot looking to hit big. He then cover drives for four runs followed by a six agonisingly just over the head of the fielder at deep mid-wicket. Single to follow before the Bears scamper for two to give Ambrose the strike. Required rate down to 13.63.
20:46 Over 41 Warks 293/6 Javid 4 Ambrose 37 A better over for the Bears as Ambrose kicks on against Samit Patel. He hits two fours, a six and a single in that over as Javid anchors at the other end with two singles. It brings the required rate down to 13.67.
20:42 Over 40 Warks 276/6 Javid 2 Ambrose 22 Mullaney’s first ball is hit to square leg for a single by Javid as Ambrose then returns the favour with a deft touch to short third man. Ambrose then squeezes the ball through the same area for four. Another good shot by Ambrose, this time dissecting deep mid-wicket and long on for a one bounce four. He then nudges a single before Javid does the same. 11 off the over for the Bears but it’s too little too late as the required run rate reaches 14.00.
20:39 Over 39 Warks 265/6 Javid 1 Ambrose 12 Hutton continues. Clarke and Amrbose score singles before Clarke ramps the third ball of the over for four. He then gets Rikki Clarke out! Next ball goes for a single courtesy of Ambrose before Javid completes the over with another single. Stellar bowling from the Outlaws.
20:35 Over 38 Warks 257/5 Clarke 1 Ambrose 10 An eventful over to say the least! Ambrose and Trott exchange singles which brings up Trott’s 100. No sooner has he reached it, he is caught out the very next ball! Rikki Clarke gets off the mark immediately with a single to deep mid-wicket. Ambrose defends the final ball. A terrific over for the Outlaws.
20:30 Over 37 Warks 253/4 Trott 99 Ambrose 8 Brett Hutton returns to the attack. Fabulous shot first up by Trott, hitting the ball wide of long-on for four. He hits the next one to deep square leg for a single. Mullaney then just beats the edge of Ambrose’s bat with a corker. This is followed by a well run two. Mullaney beats the edge of Ambrose yet again with another superb delivery. He then flicks the ball to deep extra cover for one more.
20:25 Over 36 Warks 245/4 Trott 94 Ambrose 5 Trott looks to go aerial again as he picks up one off of Mullaney’s first ball of the 36th over. Ambrose then cuts the ball away in the offside gap for two before hitting a single to mid-on. Trott then hits the ball over mid-on for six and punches the air with delight. A quickly run single to end the over.
20:22 Over 35 Warks 234/4 Trott 86 Ambrose 2 Great way to start the over for Patel with a wicket! A single is scored from the next two before Trott hits just over cover and just short of incoming deep extra cover for two. Trott nets a single to keep the strike. Another good over for the Outlaws as the Bears require more than 12 an over now at 12.13.
20:18 Over 34 Warks 230/3 Trott 84 Evans 1 An impressive over from Mullaney. He starts off conceding just one run from the first three balls, picks up a wicket and then restricts new batsman Laurie Evans to a dot and a single. Just two off that over plus a wicket. The Outlaws are on top here.
20:14 Over 33 Warks 228/2 Trott 83 Bell 60 Patel concedes seven with the Bears working the ball around the ground well but it pushes the required rate above 11 an over; it currently stands at 11.06. The Bears will really have to kick through the gears if they are to win this match, needing 188 runs from 102 balls.
20:11 Over 32 Warks 221/2 Trott 78 Bell 58 Mullaney continues. The Bears exchanged singles for the first five balls before Bell cashes in with the last delivery of the over, hitting the ball between deep mid-wicket and deep square leg for four. A much needed boundary.
20:08 Over 31 Warks 212/2 Trott 75 Bell 52 Samit Patel is brought back into the attack. It’s a much better over from the spin bowler, much better line and length with no boundaries conceded. Bell brings up a classy 50.
20:05 Over 30 Warks 206/2 Trott 73 Bell 48 Steven Mullaney comes back into the attack. The batsmen ran hard in that over. Seven from it.
20:01 Over 29 Warks 199/2 Trott 72 Bell 42 Sam Wood continues and sees his second ball hit for four past mid off by Trott; great shot. Bell then gets in on the act and hits a shot over mid off for six. The Bears looking like they are attempting to accelerating their run rate.
19:58 Over 28 Warks 186/2 Trott 67 Bell 34 Gurney bowls a short ball first up with Bell pulling the ball away just past the fielding Fletcher for four. Gurney responds well with a dot. Bell then works the ball down to third man to bring the third wicket partnership of 50 up off of 43 balls. Two runs are then added.
19:54 Over 27 Warks 177/2 Trott 66 Bell 28 Sam Wood continues and bowls a dot before Bell moves wide of the stumps to hit the ball through the covers for four; he really showed his class there. Three runs come of the final four balls.
19:51 Over 26 Warks 169/2 Trott 64 Bell 22 Harry Gurney returns after the drinks break with Trott hitting a single before Bell works the ball down to third man for four. A dot and a single to follow from Bell before Trott ends the over with the same combination.
19:47 – ANALYSIS It seems as though the Outlaws are firmly in the ascendency at this stage as Warwickshire need another 254 runs in 25 overs at a run rate of 10.16. However the Bears do have two ex England internationals at the crease. Expect drama in the last quarter of this game.
19:45 Over 25 Warks 162/2 Trott 62 Bell 17 Sam Wood starts the over well, getting three consecutive dots from Ian Bell in the first three balls before being worked away for one through extra cover. Trott then gets a single before Bell works the ball through cover for two. The required rate has rocketed to over 10 now with both teams taking a drink.
19:43 Over 24 Warks 158/2 Trott 61 Bell 14 Bell and Trott are working the ball around well out there but did not pick up a boundary that over. Hutton only conceded four singles in that as the required run rate creeps ever nearer to 10, currently standing at 9.92 with 26 overs still to go.
19:39 Over 23 Warks 154/2 Trott 59 Bell 12 Sam Wood bowls a good over until Bell reverse sweeps him away for four. Very good shot by the former England international.
19:36 Over 22 Warks 144/2 Trott 57 Bell 4 Brett Hutton returns to the attack. Bell gets a single before Trott hits a ball just short of deep square leg. Another single by Bell before Trott drives beautifully back past the bowler for four. The pair then alternate singles to finish the over.
19:32 Over 21 Warks 135/2 Trott 51 Bell 1 Sam Wood is brought on for the expensive Samit Patel and makes an immediate impact, getting the wicket of Sam Hain after Trott and Hain exchange singles! Ian Bell gets off the mark with a single with a dot to finish. Three runs and a wicket from that over. Good captaincy by Dan Christian!
19:28 Over 20 Warks 132/1 Trott 50 Hain 68 Trott scores a single before Hain reverse sweeps Mullaney for four over short fine leg, bringing up the 100 partnership off 84 deliveries. Hain earns a single to give Trott the strike and he brings up his 50.
19:25 Over 19 Warks 124/1 Trott 48 Hain 62 Hain and Trott alternate singles before Hain hits Patel over mid on for four and then off his legs over square leg for six. He’s going for a fair few runs is Samit Patel with his current figures reading 5-0-43-0.
19:21 Over 18 Warks 110/1 Trott 46 Hain 50 Mullaney replaces Hutton. The two batsmen alternate singles before Hain cuts through backward point for four. After a single, Trott is then dropped at deep mid-wicket! Another chance! Hain then completes the over by bringing up his 50 with a single.
19:17 Over 17 Warks 101/1 Trott 44 Hain 43 That drop could prove costly as Hain advances down the wicket and hits Patel over long on for six first ball. He then works the ball to deep mid-wicket for a single. Trott plays to the covers for one. Three more singles complete the over.
19:14 Over 16 Warks 90/1 Trott 42 Hain 35 Hutton continues his spell into his fourth over. Trott works the ball to square leg for a single before a half-hearted LBW appeal is turned down on Hain. He then flashes the bat as the ball beats the edge next delivery. Hain is then dropped! Sam Wood ran from deep square leg to deep mid-wicket and attempted to catch the ball with a dive but dropped him! A very hard chance. Hain then gets a single before two dots. A very good over from Hutton. Required run rate is up to 9.59 with 34 overs to go.
19:11 Over 15 Warks 88/1 Trott 41 Hain 34 Christian speaks to Patel before the start of his over which sees a single to the man at point. Five more come from the final five deliveries.
19:08 Over 14 Warks 82/1 Trott 37 Hain 32 Trott flicks the first to square leg for a single. Hutton earns a dot before Hain pulls him away for four through backward square leg. He then rotates the strike with a single to square leg which brings up the 50 partnership for the second wicket. Hutton bowling a lot at the legs here. He keeps Trott to a dot before Trott plays the ball through mid on for four more.
19:05 Over 13 Warks 72/1 Trott 32 Hain 27 Hain gets a single off the first ball of Patel’s second over. Trott plays to long on for another run before Hain then hits aerially to square leg for four. Hain gets a single off the penultimate ball and Trott follows suit off the last one. Good rotation of the strike by the Bears. Eight from that one.
19:02 Over 12 Warks 64/1 Trott 30 Hain 21 Hain gets a single off the first ball before Trott follows suit. Hutton then bowls a short ball which Hain looks to pull away but misses. He regains his composure to squirt a single to square leg. Trott defends and then runs two after a misfield at long on. The Bears’ run rate is 5.33 with the required rate at 9.26.
18:58 Over 11 Warks 59/1 Trott 27 Hain 19 Samit Patel replaces Gurney. Hain manages to cover drive a single before Trott reverse sweeps for four. Trott looks to run a single and is nearly half way down the track when Hain sends him back; he manages to slide his bat in comfortably in the end after a poor throw.
18:54 Over 10 Warks 54/1 Trott 23 Hain 18 Brett Hutton replaces Fletcher and Trott ensures the first ball goes for a run as he plays it to third man. Hain then scampers through a quick single to mid-on. Trott then plays a shot to mid-wicket for a single. A dot and a single by Hain to finish.
18:50 Over 9 Warks 50/1 Trott 21 Hain 16 Trott flicks the ball to square leg for one to give Hain the strike. Three dot balls before Hain flicks to mid-wicket for one. Trott then puts the next to square leg for a single and to start the next over with the strike. Another good over by Gurney.
18:46 Over 8 Warks 47/1 Trott 19 Hain 15 Good start to the fourth Fletcher over by Trott, flicking the ball off his legs through backward square leg for four. After a dot ball, Trott gives himself space for an offside shot and he drives the ball through extra cover for another boundary. He replicates the first ball shot for another four which the square leg fielder can’t get to. A dot follows before Trott flicks the ball to mid-wicket for a quick single to retain the strike again.
18:42 Over 7 Warks 34/1 Trott 6 Hain 15 A good over by Gurney. Four dot balls before Trott edges the ball down to third man for four attempting to cover drive. He then gets the ball to mid on for a single and to retain the strike.
18:38 Over 6 Warks 29/1 Trott 1 Hain 15 Fletcher bowls a dot before getting Will Porterfield out for 12! He beats Trott’s straight bat with the third ball. Trott leaves the next one and defends the fifth before flicking the ball to the square leg fielder for a single to get himself off the mark. A superb over by Luke Fletcher.
18:32 Over 5 Warks 28/0 Porterfield 12 Hain 15 Four from the first ball of the over by Hain. He picked out a loose delivery from Gurney very well there. Five dots follow with one delivery just zipping by the edge of Hain’s bat.
18:29 Over 4 Warks 24/0 Porterfield 12 Hain 11 Porterfield edges the first ball down to third man for a single first ball. Hain runs a quick single before Porterfield latches onto a loose delivery and shoots through extra cover for four. It looks very much as though he is starting to settle in. A dot before Porterfield advances down the wicket and hits the ball over backward square leg for four.
18:25 Over 3 Warks 14/0 Porterfield 3 Hain 10 Gurney is bowling a short to good length to both batsmen in the early stages. Hain is coping much better with this than Porterfield at the moment with Porterfield earning a single before Hain plays another shot through point for four. Two dots to follow.
18:21 Over 2 Warks 9/0 Porterfield 2 Hain 6 Luke Fletcher to bowl the first over at the opposite end. Lovely shot by Hain through point second ball of the over for four and Warwickshire’s first boundary of the innings. He then squeezes through a single which Porterfield replicates later in the over. Dot to finish.
18:17 Over 1 Warks 3/0 Porterfield 1 Hain 1 Gurney gets the second innings underway bowling a dot ball to Porterfield as the lights heat up. A loud LBW appeal second ball but the umpire immediately shakes his head. Porterfield off the mark flicking the ball to mid-wicket. Sam Hain on strike now, the man who hit 92* here in the T20 Blast fixture as Birmingham Bears went on to beat the Outlaws in that game. Appeal for a catch behind for his first ball but the umpire is not interested. He gets off the mark with a thick edge to third man. Gurney bowls a wide before Porterfield nearly edges the final ball. A good start for the Outlaws.
18:12 We’ll be back underway very shortly as the Warwickshire batsmen take to the crease and Dan Christian organises his field. Harry Gurney to bowl the first over.
17:47 – ANALYSIS Very good total from the Outlaws with the top order setting the standard which also featured a true captain’s innings. The bowlers will have to perform a lot better than they did against the Northamptonshire Steelbacks to defend this total, which could be difficult with Jake Ball missing and with the Warwickshire Bears’ stellar batting line-up. Certainly not over this one. We will be back shortly as the Bears try and chase down 416 to win.

17:37 Over 50 Notts 415/5 Mullaney 0 Patel 17 Hannon-Dalby to bowl the final over, who bowls a full toss to Christian which he dispatches for six through mid-wicket! The next one goes for six over long on to bring up 400! Christian then gets out in search of his century. Patel skies the next ball for two off of a no ball which brings us the first free hit of the day! Patel comes down the track and hits it over the bowlers head for six! A breathless finale to the innings here at Trent Bridge! Patel advances again and hits over the covers for four more! A single off of the final ball as Notts have set Warwickshire 416 to win.
17:31 Over 49 Notts 388/4 Christian 82 Patel 4 Ateeq Javid to bowl. Deep conversation about the field before he does between himself and the captain. Smith skies a shot just short of long off for one before Christian hits the next ball straight back over the bowlers head for six. He then comes down the pitch to hit a superb shot through mid-wicket for four more. A single to follow. Smith gets out hitting straight to long on! Samit Patel comes in for the final delivery, thinly bottom edges it and the ball creeps away for four! Can Notts reach 400 for the second consecutive game?
17:25 Over 48 Notts 372/3 Christian 71 Smith 72 Hannon-Dalby returns. He gets away with a full toss going for a single to cover before conceding an overthrow! Smith hits another full toss, this time straight onto the ankle of Hannon-Dalby; that one will be sore tomorrow! Still, only a single conceded. Christian hits the last ball over extra cover for six more after what was looking to be a good over for the Bears.
17:21 Over 47 Notts 361/3 Christian 64 Smith 68 Dan Christian moves into the 50s with the first ball of Richard Jones’ eighth over being hit for four. The second ball is played over short third man for four more. He then top edges the third over short third man again for another four! He’s not hanging about now that he has reached the landmark! He hits the fourth between square leg and mid-wicket aerially for four more! Four consecutive fours! He tries the same shot again which bounces just before reaching deep mid-wicket, restricting the captain to a single. Smith plays an improvised reversed sweep for one to third man to keep the strike. 18 from that over.
17:15 Over 46 Notts 343/3 Christian 47 Smith 67 Patel to finish his allotted overs. Four singles, a dot and a four to finish, aerially swept through square leg by Smith. That brings up the 100 partnership for the fourth wicket off just 69 balls.
17:11 Over 45 Notts 335/3 Christian 45 Smith 61 Richard Jones returns to the attack for the 45th over. Christian hits a six over the covers in the second ball of the over as the sun returns. It looks as if the ball has been lost as the umpires deliberate on which ball will be the replacement. Jones appeals for an LBW next ball but was sliding down leg stump as the Outlaws scamper through for a single. Smith then produces a ramp shot to hit a four through fine leg. A single and a dot to finish. 13 from that one.
17:05 Over 44 Notts 322/3 Christian 38 Smith 55 Patel concedes two singles before bowling two wides. Smith then hits a six which is caught on the wrong side of the boundary to bring up a 50!
17:01 Over 43 Notts 309/3 Christian 36 Smith 46 The first ball from Hannon-Dalby is lofted over mid-wicket for a one bounce four. A mix up sees a half chance of running Dan Christian out go by as the bowler puts his football skills to the test. Christian responds by perfectly driving a four through the covers as the clouds gather and the sun waves its goodbyes over Trent Bridge. Then next ball, after running two, the fielder throws the ball at the wicketkeeper’s end which comes off the bat of Christian and goes for four overthrows! A single to finish as Notts get 16 from the over.
16:58 Over 42 Notts 293/3 Christian 25 Smith 41 Patel continues. Another largely uneventful over sees five singles as Notts continue to work the ball around the ground. The final single brings up the 50 partnership from 44 balls. Surely it won’t be long before the batsmen start to hit big?
16:54 Over 41 Notts 288/3 Christian 23 Smith 38 Hannon-Dalby sees his fifth over go for six singles. Warwickshire will be happy to have restricted Notts to six off the over at this stage of the innings.
16:49 Over 40 Notts 282/3 Christian 20 Smith 35 Jeetan Patel returns and Greg Smith plays a ramp shot first ball of the over down to fine leg for three. Smith is cranking himself up as he comes down the pitch only to edge to third man for two. He then attempts a sweep shot with the result a dot straight to short fine leg. He advances again but only for a single to mid-wicket. He’s looking busy at the crease. Christian finishes the over with a single.
16:46 Over 39 Notts 274/3 Christian 18 Smith 29 Four singles come off of Clarke’s final over. He finishes with very respectable figures of 10-1-45-2 with an economy rate of 4.50.
16:41 Over 38 Notts 270/3 Christian 16 Smith 27 An awful delivery to start Jones’ sixth over as he bowls so far down the legside that the keeper cannot prevent five wides. He responds well with just two runs off four balls until Christian plays a straight drive through long off for four. A single means the captain keeps the strike.
16:36 Over 37 Notts 258/3 Christian 10 Smith 26 Four singles, a well run two and a dot to finish coming off of Clarke’s penultimate over of the match.
16:32 Over 36 Notts 252/3 Christian 6 Smith 24 Richard Jones comes back into the attack; again Ian Bell not allowing the batsmen to settle easily. Dan Christian plays a lovely shot through point for four with some impeccable footwork to get himself into a good position on the back foot. The other five balls are played for singles. A productive over for the Outlaws.
16:27 Over 35 Notts 243/3 Christian 0 Smith 21 Clarke continues and the Bears launch the same plan before he gets the prized wicket of Michael Lumb for 133 after playing the ball onto the stumps! Another superb innings from the 36 year old as the crowd rise to their feet in appreciation of such a talented knock. Brendan Taylor comes in and immediately gets off the mark, cutting a shot through point for four before clean bowling the ex Zimbabwean international! An eventful over comes to an end with a dot by captain Dan Christian. Game on!
16:20 Over 34 Notts 238/1 Lumb 133 Smith 20 Trott returns with Lumb hitting the first ball of the over for six, bringing up the 50 partnership from 43 balls for the second wicket. He then replicates the same lofted shot over mid-wicket with the same result; six more! Four singles to end the expensive over of 12.
16:15 Over 33 Notts 222/1 Lumb 119 Smith 18 Rikki Clarke back into the attack. The Bears have an obvious game plan with three men outside of the ring to both batsmen on the legside. Tiring for the fielders however with the left and right hand combination of the batsmen at the crease. Almost predictably, that’s six singles off of the over. The field setting is giving the impression that the Bears are happy to concede six runs an over at this stage.
16:11 Over 32 Notts 216/1 Lumb 116 Smith 15 Patel returns again! Three singles before Smith comes down the track to smash Patel over mid off for six. A lovely shot that with a single to finish.
16:08 Over 31 Notts 206-1 Lumb 113 Smith 8 Lovely shot by Lumb second ball of Javid’s eighth over as he hits it over backward square leg for four. He then repeats with the next ball; he’s looking in really good nick out there. The Outlaws continue to then rotate the strike. An expensive over with 12 coming off it.
16:02 Over 30 Notts 194/1 Lumb 103 Smith 6 Two more valuable singles off the first two for Notts as Trott returns. Lumb looks to give himself more room by moving wide of the crease to try and hit a ball over the offside but misses completely. Another couple of singles follow.
15:59 Over 29 Notts 190/1 Lumb 101 Smith 4 Yet another bowling change sees Oliver Hannon-Dalby brought back. Six runs come from the over, including the single that Michael Lumb scored to reach his second consecutive century. The run rate is now at 6.55.
15:54 Over 28 Notts 184/1 Lumb 98 Smith 2 Patel returns in this rotation at one end with Trott, not allowing the Outlaws to settle back down easily. Just three singles come off of the 28th over as Lumb goes just two from consecutive centuries.
15:51 Over 27 Notts 181/1 Lumb 96 Smith 1 A great call by captain Ian Bell as he brings Richard Jones back into the attack who has an immediate impact, dismissing Riki Wessels in the first ball of the over for 76! A fine innings by Wessels; he will be annoyed with himself that he couldn’t go on to reach three figures. Greg Smith gets off the mark straight away with a shot to wide mid on. Jones looks fired up now as he causes Smith some problems with the short ball after three singles. Just what the Bears needed.
15:45 Over 26 Notts 178/0 Lumb 94 Wessels 76 The action returns, Trott returns with his medium pace and the Outlaws openers return with their capable rotation of the strike. The Bears will be hoping that drinks bring wickets sooner rather than later as Lumb edges ever closer to his century.
15:38 Over 25 Notts 174/0 Lumb 92 Wessels 74 Bears’ best bowler so far Rikki Clarke returns as Warwickshire continue their desperate search for a breakthrough. A largely uneventful over as the openers continue to work the ball around the ground well. Time for drinks.
15:34 Over 24 Notts 169/0 Lumb 89 Wessels 72 Jeetan Patel returns and replaces Trott who only conceded four in his over. Six singles in the over complete the twenty fourth as we surge towards the halfway stage.
15:30 Over 23 Notts 163/0 Lumb 86 Wessels 69 Javid continues. Lumb advances down the pitch first ball with a lofted four over the covers. He attempts to replicate the shot next ball but can only pick out the fielder at point for a single. Wessels then continues the legside onslaught with a four through backward square leg. Good attacking batting from the home side as the opening partnership continues to grow considerably once again.
15:27 Over 22 Notts 153/0 Lumb 81 Wessels 64 Part time bowler Jonathan Trott comes into the attack. The 35 year old ex England international concedes a single off of the first ball courtesy of Wessels which brings up 150 for both Notts and the opening partnership off of 130 balls. The Bears are desperately searching for a breakthrough but the Outlaws remain composed with a further three singles before Trott tightens the over up, finishing with two dots.
15:22 Over 21 Notts 149/0 Lumb 79 Wessels 62 A less explosive over as Javid concedes six singles. Lumb and Wessels rotating the strike very nicely to all parts of the ground.
15:19 Over 20 Notts 143/0 Lumb 76 Wessels 59 Laurie Evans replaces Jeetan Patel for the twentieth over. Wessels shows off the first fancy shot of the day with a reverse sweep but results in a dot. He goes back to more conventional methods for the next one and ends up hitting a six over mid-wicket. Evans is struggling with his line and length as he bowls a wide and gets cut away through point for two more. An expensive opening over as Lumb ends it with a single.
15:14 Over 19 Notts 131/0 Lumb 72 Wessels 52 Right on cue with the first ball of the over from Javid, Wessels brings up his 50. The openers are continuing to rotate the strike to good effect with some good running also seeing two picked up from the fifth ball of the over for Wessels. A dot to finish as Javid keeps his economy rate under six with current figures of 5-0-27-0.
15:10 Over 18 Notts 127/0 Lumb 71 Wessels 49 Lumb is really targeting Patel in the glorious sunshine which brings Bell and Patel together to re-assess the field after the first ball of the over which works out well for the Bears. Wessels is still in the forties! Surely not for much longer…
15:06 Over 17 Notts 119/0 Lumb 64 Wessels 48 Javid returns into the attack. The Outlaws return to strike rotating duties in an over including four byes conceded by the Bears. A much quieter over yet the run rate creeps up to exactly 7.00 for the home side.
15:02 Over 16 Notts 111/0 Lumb 62 Wessels 46 Lumb carries on his attack with two consecutive fours against Patel before a lovely response, hitting Lumb just above the knee roll of his pads. Lumb responds himself with another four, through backward square leg. A quiet end follows. Patel is proving expensive himself with 19 runs coming off his first two overs.
15:00 Over 15 Notts 99/0 Lumb 50 Wessels 46 Wessels hits a lofted shot through the covers for four off of the second ball of Jones’ third over. He then hits the fourth ball with a lofted shot through midwicket for another four. Lumb then brings up his fifty with a shot through point for one. Jones is proving to be quite expensive here with current figures of 3-0-30-0.
14:55 Over 14 Notts 88/0 Lumb 48 Wessels 38 Jeetan Patel comes into the attack with a good over until the final ball. Lumb and Wessels just seemed to be assessing the bowler to see what he’s offering until Wessels hit a lovely cover drive for four. Seven from that one.
14:50 Over 13 Notts 81/0 Lumb 46 Wessels 33 A beautiful shot through mid-wicket by Lumb off the first ball of the over brings up four more. The Bears see a top edge from Lumb bounce to third man for a single. Wessels responds by hitting a six through mid-wicket. It looks as if both batsmen are looking to increase the run rate. Two runs by Wessels through backward point to finish. Expensive over with 15 coming off it.
14:46 Over 12 Notts 66/0 Lumb 40 Wessels 24 A well worked single by Wessels off of the first ball from Hannon-Dalby gets Lumb on strike who seizes his chance to hit the next ball over Rikki Clarke at long off for six. A quiet end to the over follows as both batsmen continue to rotate the strike. The run rate is now up to 5.50.
14:41 Over 11 Notts 56/0 Lumb 32 Wessels 22 Richard Jones replaces Rikki Clarke who starts with a wide. Expert fielding by the Bears sees what looked like a certain four saved as Wessels looks to accelerate. Immediately after he plays and misses at a very good ball. A single to finish. A mixed over by both teams.
14:36 Over 10 Notts 51/0 Lumb 31 Wessels 19 Lumb hits the first six after Hannon-Dalby bowls a poor delivery; too short and wide of off that had hit me written all over it which brings up the 50 partnership after 9.2 overs. Hannon-Dalby then tightens up the over. A very similar start to what Notts had against Northamptonshire here…
14:31 Over 9 Notts 44/0 Lumb 24 Wessels 19 A similar over to the last one from Clarke – good tight bowling with just one ball off his usual line and length dispatched for four, this time through point by Wessels. The partnership builds.
14:27 Over 8 Notts 39/0 Lumb 23 Wessels 15 Oliver Hannon-Dalby is brought into the attack in place of Patel. After a good start, Hannon-Dalby veers off his line and length just enough for Lumb to dispatch the 26 year old expertly through the covers for four. A single to finish the over so that Lumb keeps the strike.
14:23 Over 7 Notts 33/0 Lumb 18 Wessels 14 Lumb hits the first ball for four before Clarke quickly gets back to the line and length that restricted Wessels to six dots in his previous over. Another good over from the 34 year old.
14:18 Over 6 Notts 29/0 Lumb 14 Wessels 14 Both batsmen work the ball around nicely with the first three balls. The first extra of the match comes as Patel bowls a wide. Immediately after, Wessels plays a lovely cover drive to dissect the field and earn a boundary. Wessels hits the last ball of the over on the back foot through extra cover for four more. It looks as if Patel is the man being targeted.
14:15 Over 5 Notts 17/0 Lumb 12 Wessels 5 Clarke bowls a maiden over to Wessels who is struggling to get the ball away; his five runs have come from 18 balls. Notts’ run rate is currently at 3.40.
14:11 Over 4 Notts 17/0 Lumb 12 Wessels 5 Another tight over for the Bears as again the batsmen can only knock the ball around for a few singles. Good bowling this from Warwickshire.
14:09 Over 3 Notts 14/0 Lumb 11 Wessels 3 Clarke returns with a tight over as the Outlaws struggle to get the ball away. Just a couple of quick singles coming from that over.
14:05 Over 2 Notts 12/0 Lumb 10 Wessels 2 Ateeq Javid starts at the other end with some spin. A quickly run single gets Wessels up and running who will be hoping to repeat his heroics against Northants. Just three more singles in the over provides a good start by Javid.
14:02 Over 1 Notts 8/0 Lumb 8 Wessels 0 Rikki Clarke bowls the first over and after a quiet start, Lumb edges the fourth ball of the over away for four just past second slip. A lovely shot through point off of the fifth brings up four more. A good start for the Outlaws.
13:58 We’re underway…
13:57 COIN TOSS NEWS Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bowl. A seemingly suprising decision given that more cloud cover is expected later on what looks to be a similar pitch to that which saw 870 runs scored when Notts played Northants, an English 50 over record.
