Man cut free from car after crash with bus causing delays to major Nottingham roads

A man was cut free from his car by fire crews after a crash with a bus which has caused delays on major roads in the city.

Notts Fire and Rescue were called at 12.09pm to the Forest Road East junction on Mansfield Road.

Crews from Bingham Road and London Road used specialist cutting equipment to free the man who was later taken to hopsital in an ambulance.

Notts Fire and Rescue said they left the scene at 1.13pm.

A spokeman said: “Crews from London Road and Bingham, along with an Officer, attended a road traffic collision [RTC] at 12:09pm today [July 5] on Mansfield Road, close to the junction with Forest Road East.

“The collision involved a car and a bus, and firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment and small tools to extricate one male casualty from his vehicle, who was later taken to hospital by ambulance.

“Fire crews had left the scene shortly before 1:15pm, however traffic delays remain in the area.

“The man was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.”

A driver at the scene said: “There’s no roof on the car, the roof has been cut off, there are two fire engines there, and the person is still in the car.”

And Nottingham City Transport said the incident has caused delays on 14 of its buses.

A NCT spokesman said: “There has been an RTC on Mansfield Road, which is delaying all Brown 15, 16, 17, Lime 56, 57, 58, 59, Yellow 68, 69, 70, 71 and Purple 87, 88, 89.”

The bus services are diverted via Alfreton Road and Gregory Boulevard in both directions.

NCT said the Brown 15-17 services and Yellow 68-71 busess cannot travel to Milton Street, and are advised to catch busses from Burton Street.

The Lime 56-59 services and Purple 87-89 cannot go to Parliament Street, and passengers are asked to go to Burton Street.
