A man has been jailed for 10 years for the rape of a woman in Radford.
Jonathon Gray, 30, of Milton Street, Nottingham, was convicted of two counts of rape by a jury at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (October 28).
He will serve 10 years in prison plus five years on extended licence; Gray has also been barred from working with children and will be on the sex offenders’ register for life.
It took the jury only half an hour to convict Gray
Detective Constable Alicia Harrison, from Nottinghamshire Police’s Public Protection, said: “This was a horrific and violent attack which left the victim badly shaken.
“The evidence in this case was compelling and it took the jury only half an hour to convict Gray.
“We hope his sentence sends out a strong message that if someone does not consent to sex, it is rape and there will be serious consequences.”
The court heard how Gray forced himself on the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, in her living room on Sunday May 8.
The victim struggled to breathe and feared for her life; she tried to shout out but Gray put his hand over her mouth tightly during the attack.
She asked him to stop but Gray continued.
The woman eventually managed to break free from Gray and flee to a family member; Gray had fled into the street.
