A Nottingham man has been jailed for six years after setting fire to a house while two people were sleeping.
Liam Rogers, 37, formerly of Russell Road in Nottingham was sentenced to six years in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (November 28).
He pleaded guilty earlier this month to arson with intent to endanger life.
Detective Constable Steve Fenyn said: “If the fire service hadn’t reacted as quickly and professionally as they did, this could have been much more serious.
“I’m happy with the sentence today, no one should ever have to experience the panic of waking up to a house full of smoke.
“Even though Rogers pleaded guilty, throughout the investigation he continued to show no remorse for his actions.”
On March 3 at around 1.40am, officers were called by the fire service requesting urgent assistance in Forest Fields.
They were attempting to put out a house fire in Ewart Road whilst two people were asleep inside.
When the fire service first arrived, Rogers was seen blocking them from gaining access to the house, before pushing one of the crew in the chest.
He then continued to push the fire officer a number of times whilst he was trying to do his job.
An investigation into the cause of the fire found that a wheelie bin had been set on fire and then pushed against the front door of the house, causing smoke to fill the rooms.
Two people had to escape the fire through their garden.
