New classrooms provide Nottinghamshire youngsters with a fresh start

Ultra modern, ready made classrooms have been dropped in to schools by crane giving them a larger capacity to take in more students.

These flat pack classrooms are delivered on the back of a lorry and put together like a puzzle.

Eleven schools across the county will have benefited from 36 news classrooms by the end of this month due to the Government investing £5.5 million in to schools.

The energy efficient, purpose designed buildings are helping to provide 700 extra places available to schools across Nottinghamshire this term.

Pinewood Infant and Nursery School in Arnold is the latest school to benefit from these new classrooms. This new addition to the school has resulted in 30 extra places for pupils.

Naomi Lander started teaching at the school in July, and the main reason for her getting the job was due to the new classroom where she now teaches her year 1 class.

She said: “It’s great now because we have two year one classes so it means we’ve got more space which means the children get a much better education”.

“When I saw the plan of it I thought it was going to be absolutely tiny, but I couldn’t believe how big it was, it’s so big and spacious and there are so many lovely areas that the children are able to work in. There are so many areas in the classroom for learning, which has meant we are now really able to cater for their learning”

Rebecca Guy, early years teacher at Pinewood said: “Last year because the school was full we had to have mixed classes so we were working from two different curriculum’s but now because of the new classroom we’ve been able to have separate classes.”

“This means the children get the curriculum that is exactly right for them’

In the county, 291 pupils did not get their first choice school this year. The main reason for these huge demands for more classroom spaces is all due to the rise in the birth rate.
