Nottingham Beach closes following less than impressive Summer

The Nottingham Riviera has officially closed following a wet and windy summer in the U.K with rainfall in July above average across the UK.

The City Centre beach, organised by The Mellors Group Events, has been gracing the Centre of Nottingham for the past seven years after its debut in 2009.

James Mellor, the Director of the Mellors Group Event can certainly recognise the impact that the bad weather has had on the Beach, but insists that the atmosphere is still great come rain or shine.

He said; “The atmosphere in Nottingham City Centre is always fantastic with the children playing and the hustle and bustle of the City.”

“But as we all know the weather has been a problem and with so much rain over the last six weeks it’s been hard for everyone to make the most of it”.

Mr Mellor also recognises the detrimental impact that the poor weather conditions can have on trade for local businesses.

“It’s not just in Nottingham, it’s across the whole of the country and the rain definitely deters people from going out, trade is definitely down and I’m sure that other retailers will be feeling the same thing.”

Jake Danvers, the Bar Supervisor at The Orange Tree in Nottingham City Centre is also noticing the negative implications that the poor weather is having on business.

He said; “People do tend to know our venue as one the big garden venues in the City, as it is quite rare so people do come here to sit outside and enjoy a drink in the sun so when is hasn’t been sunny people aren’t opting to do that.”

There is hope in the air for an Indian summer and according to the Met Office the end of September could see warm, dry weather returning to the city.
