A burglar who targeted buildings in and around Nottingham Trent University has been sentenced to 30 months in prison.
Muddaser Ahmed, 37, of Cedar Road in Nottingham was jailed for the theft that was committed in student residences in September 2015.
Alongside this, a judge at Nottingham Crown Court also gave Ahmed a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from any building linked to the university anywhere in Nottingham.
If Ahmed breaches the order, he could go back to prison.
We want the neighbourhood to feel safe
Councillor Nicola Heaton, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at Nottingham City Council said: “It is only right that the student community are protected in this way by both sentencing and additional enforcement.
“We want students and residents in the neighbourhood to feel safe, so this is a great outcome.”
Ahmed has numerous previous convictions, particularly walk-in thefts committed within the city centre’s Nottingham Trent University buildings.
In August 2015, he stole a laptop computer from the Students’ Union building, was convicted in November and received a 17 month custodial sentence.
But while awaiting this sentence, Ahmed committed another burglary in student accommodation on Hampden Street in September 2015.
He entered the building and stole a laptop from a student’s room.
He was identified on the building’s CCTV system and arrested and charged.
