Nottingham Girl’s High School celebrate 140 years of education

Nottingham Girl’s High School are starting the year with a number of festivities to mark their 140th anniversary of providing quality education.

The school will be kicking off the celebration’s with it’s ‘Celebration and Awards Evening’ on the 17th September.

The evening, which is being held at Nottingham’s Albert Hall, will be a chance for the school to acknowledge the efforts and achievements of over 220 students.

Students will be presented with awards for academic achievement, sporting success and community service by former Royal Air Force pilot Mandy Hickson.

Sue Gorham, Head of Nottingham Girl’s High School said: “We’re all excited about celebrating our 140th year and what better way to start than by recognising the outstanding accomplishment of our girls”.

The school was founded by what is now The Girl’s Day School Trust and is the only independent day school for girls aged between four and 18.

A number of the school’s pupils have gone to achieve some incredible things, including Mary Browning who, in 1922, became the first woman in England to obtain a Doctorate in Physics at London University.

Former Student Dame Stella Rimington also became the first woman ever to be promoted to the rank of Director General of M15.

Ms Gorham added: “I’m so proud to be Head of Nottingham Girl’s High School and i’m proud of all our students, past and present. Providing a complete learning experience devoted to girls is our passion and ourpurpose, as it has been for 140 years.”
