Nottingham is the cleanest and greenest city in the East Midlands

Nottingham has won a Gold award in the ‘In Bloom’ competition alongside a special regional award for the city centre’s cleanliness.

It’s the 22nd time Nottingham has won the Gold award in the East Midlands ‘in bloom’ competition.

The competition assesses three criteria: horticultural excellence, environmental responsibility and community participation.

The two judges who assessed Nottingham back in July had a four hour tour around the city. They praised the fact that there was such a diverse range of environments in the city, from the hedgerows at St Ann’s to the water features at Nottingham University’s campus.

The awards ceremony which took place at Rutland Water Golf Club, Oakham saw Nottingham winning quite a few awards including The Judge’s Award, which was won by the beehives project at the Corner House.

A Gold award was also won by Oak Field School for the Best School Wildlife Garden.
