Pokemon Go is taking over Nottingham – and players are so engrossed police are asking players to ‘use their common sense’ while trying to catch ’em all.

Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game where players can walk around with their smart phones and catch virtual monsters called Pokemon which appear in the real world.

The police warning comes after some players in other areas injured themselves while trying to catch Pokemon. Some have even had their smart phones snatched by thieves.

In a Facebook post, Notts Police wished players luck but urged caution.

The game was released in Britain on Thursday morning but was already being played by hundreds of thousands of UK gamers who had found ways around software restrictions to get early access.

There have been several reports of people being injured while distracted in the street while playing the game.

In one case in the US a girl says she was hit by a car while crossing the road to try to catch a Pokemon. She escaped with cuts and bruises.

Notts players have been welcoming the games arrival to the UK by scurrying around city land marks and already holding meet ups in Old Market Square.

And on Facebook players who remembered the game’s first versions in the 1990s welcomed its return.

Lizzie Reeve said: “If you would have told me 15 years ago that this would be an announcement made by the police I don’t think I quite would have believed it. Love that Pokemon is cool again.”

Even Team Rocket have had their say!
