Notts runner grows beard for charity

A Carlton man lost his dad to cancer three years ago and has now decided to raise money for a personal charity in as many ways as possible.

Chris Hill, 43, is raising money for Bowel Cancer UK Charity by growing his beard for a whole year after his dad passed away three years ago.

Chris took part in Decembeard last year, which required him to grow a beard for the month of December and raised money alongside it.

He said: “Well if you can grow it for a month, why not do it for a year and raise even more money.”

Decembeard is in association with the Beating Bowel Cancer Charity, encouraging men to put down their razor for a month and help raise as much money as possible for bowel cancer.

Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer.

However, it doesn’t stop at beard growing, Chris is also running the Robin Hood Half Marathon for the second time, hoping to beat his previous record of 2 hours.

Alongside marathon training and beard growing, Chris has created and brewed his own Charity beer with the Lincoln Green brewing company. The beer will be released at the Nottingham Robin Hood beer festival in October and 10p from every pint will go towards Bowel Cancer UK Charity.

So far Chris has raised £370 but is planning to raise more, especially through the sale of his Charity beer.
