Officers have arrested two 16-year-old boys after a long standoff in Dunkirk in Nottingham.

The pair were detained on suspicion of burglary, causing criminal damage and affray in relation to the incident in Cloister Street.

Police were called just before 8am on Wednesday (April 5) and evacuated a number of homes while they dealt with reports of two youths on the roofs of houses.

The arrests were made and the incident brought to a close around 7pm.

Some residents were given food and shelter in a nearby pub after the evacuation.

Chief Superintendent Mark Holland said: “We would like to thank residents for their patience during the incident today and will continue to support them as the cleanup operation beings.

“We are now working with landlords, housing agencies and the local authority to make sure everyone is looked after.

“It was hugely important that we made sure no one was hurt and I’m glad to report there are not thought to be any injuries as a result of the incident.

“I would also like to thank The Johnson Arms pub for their help and support.”
