Police are deploying sniffer dogs and extra officers to Nottingham city centre after two people became seriously ill after taking drugs on a night out.

Police are warning clubbers about a particularly dangerous MDMA substance that could be circulating in the city and issued a further warning about the dangers of taking drugs.

Chief Inspector Shaun Ostle said: “These incidents underlined once again the very real dangers caused by taking drugs. You can never guarantee that any drug is safe to consume

“We will deploy a specialist sniffer dog which is able to identify and locate the presence of drugs on a person’s clothing or skin.”

Nottinghamshire Police will also deploy more officers in a bid to crack down on drug-taking and dealing and will be using ultra-violet torches which can pick up traces of powder on a person’s body.

CI Ostle added: “Either of those two incidents last week could have resulted in a fatality. Fortunately, they did not and we are more than ready to respond proactively to help minimise that risk.”

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs in relation to the incident last week.

Police are reminding people to call 999 immediately if they are concerned that a friend or relative has taken a potentially harmful drug.
