From the most popular baby names to favourite school dinners: Notts in 2016

Amelia and Oliver were the most popular baby names in Nottinghamshire in 2016, council figures show.

Nottinghamshire County Council released its annual round-up of statistics before the New Year, showing trends in families, school meals and public services.

It includes a breakdown of the most popular names given to children in the county according to registry office records.

A total of 63 boys were named Oliver and 53 girls were named Amelia.

These were followed by George, Alfie and Harry for boys and Olivia, Emily and Scarlett for girls.

Other county figures show roast beef and Yorkshire pudding was the most popular school dinner for Notts in 2016 and Mansfield Registry Office is the most popular place to get married.

There were also more than 68,000 calls to the council contact centre about adult social care in 2016.

Councillor Alan Rhodes, Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “The huge pressure on Council budgets has been in the headlines again recently, with more of the reducing amount the Council has to spend being needed to provide life-changing social care services to a growing number of elderly and disabled people.

“Whilst the majority of the Council’s work is with some of the area’s most vulnerable people, our diverse range of responsibilities means what we do has an impact on the lives of people of all ages, every single day.

“Ever tighter purse strings continue to make things difficult for people delivering the services we rely on, but I am proud that Nottinghamshire County Council continues to provide so many excellent, value-for-money public services which remain the envy of many other parts of the country.”
