An Ashfield man has been sentenced to 32 weeks in prison after he threatened to stab a shop staff member in the eye with a syringe.

Police said Sean Vince, of Kirkby-in-Ashfield, is known as a “prolific and abusive” offender in the area, with 65 convictions for theft offences.

He has now been convicted of three more shop thefts and a further public order offence, when he threatened a worker at a shop, telling them to step out of the sight of CCTV so he could stab them in the eye with a needle.

Vince, 30, of David Street, has now been jailed and given a criminal behaviour order banning him from all shops in the town.

Inspector Glenn Longden, Neighbourhood Inspector for Ashfield North, said: “Vince has behaved in a completely unacceptable way towards staff at many different stores throughout Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

“He put members of our community in fear for their safety and that is something we will not stand for.

He added the sentence “will give Vince time to make changes to his own behaviour which will benefit the whole community, including himself”.
