Ten people, including four children, narrowly escaped a fire which tore through a Stapleford taxi office.

The fire broke out in the Happy Cabs office on Derby Road at about 10.45pm on Saturday.

Fire crews rescued seven people including the four children, and three others managed to get out before the emergency services arrived.

The blaze has left the taxi office in ruins and the flats above unsafe to live in.

Two of the adults were taken to hospital with burns following the fire but no one is thought to be seriously hurt.

Flames engulfed the ground floor of the complex, also used as residential flats.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said it is investigating the cause, while reminding people to make sure smoke alarms are fitted in their homes.
