Video: Danielle Hall checks out the nine puppies a French Bulldog gave birth to
A French Bulldog from Notts has successfully given birth to nine puppies following an emergency procedure.
Porsche the three-year-old French Bulldog had to have an emergency cesarian section at Buckley House vets in Hucknall to give birth but all nine were born successfully.
Her owner, who asked to be kept anonymous due to concern for the puppies’ safety, is relieved the mother and puppies have been getting on fine since they were born.
The owner said: “It happened to be the receptionist’s first day at the vets and she got thrown in the deep end but she was very supportive when we came in with Porsche.
“She kept me informed with what was going on and kept me relaxed.
“You couldn’t take the smile off my face when I found out we had nine!”
The average number in a litter of Bulldog puppies is three.
Vet William Heston, who treated Porsche, said: “There’s a huge risk with a cesarian section procedure because it’s not something you can effectively plan for.
“Porsche wasn’t due to give birth for another three days so the puppies were a little bit early.
“Normally, they tend to have smaller litters with bigger puppies which is normally a problem.
“These ones however, even though there were nine of them, were a pretty decent size as well – Porsche was huge when she came in, she was waddling about and could barely move!”
Ali Irvine, the receptionist, said: “It’s quite challenging but very exciting for anybody when puppies come in to be born.
“Apart from anything else, it’s bringing new life into the world but it went very well so it was great.
“It’s lovely to see them doing so well – I hadn’t seen them for a few days so it’s good to see them!”
