There will be 720 extra school places throughout Nottinghamshire thanks to work carried out by Nottingham County Council.

The Council has been working over recent months to meet the increasing demand for more places in Schools and eleven schools will be benefiting from the Council’s £5.5 million investment.

The schools that will be benefiting in the county will include Butlers Hill Infant and Nursey in Hucknall, Sir Edmund Hillary Primary School in Worksop and Central Infant and Nursery in Carlton.

Since 2013, the Council has created 3,200 additional Primary school places and invested a total of nearly £48 million.

The Council’s Children and Young People’s Committee chairman Councillor John Peck said: “When expanding the permanent capacity of primary schools, we provide additional places throughout all seven year groups, rather than just first admission places.

“This is necessary as the increase in demand for primary places has been, and is likely to remain, sustained for some years.

“We’re also committed to expanding the junior schools linked with these infant schools and will starting building work for an additional 480 places at the related linked junior schools this autumn so that sufficient places are available once the larger class sizes move into Key Stage 2 in 2018.”
