VIDEO: Amir Khan talks about his love for helping the community
Amir Khan gifted presents to children at the QMC with his charity to mark the end of Ramadan.
The 29 year old Bolton born boxer has won four world titles to go with the silver medal he won at the 2004 Olympics.
Ramadan is where Muslims fast from dawn until sunset for the entire month to mark the ninth month of the Muslim year.
I wanted to put a smile on their faces
Speaking about his visit, Amir Khan said: “For the Amir Khan Foundation I decided to come to Nottingham to give presents to the kids here at the QMC to put a smile on their faces.
“It’s after Ramadan too which is why I decided to team up with the QMC.
“At the foundation we do a lot of work in the UK, helping to build schools and community centres and we work abroad as well to help those who are very poor and have no water.
“We built our first orphange in Africa and we recently supported the Syrian refugees.”
Amir Khan also spoke about the boxing scene in Nottingham and is excited by what’s on offer in the city.
He said: “Nottingham was put on the map by Carl Froch in the boxing scene.
“I had a few fights here when I was an up and coming professional in the same way that Lee Wood is coming through.
“There are some great champions coming out of Nottingham and it’s one of those areas in the country where there’s good talent and I’m here to support them as well.”
