Models of the original penguins used in last year’s Christmas John lewis advert are being sold in aid of a Nottingham charity.

The props are being auctioned online for the St Ann’s-based Playworks charity as this year’s edition of the store’s famous festive promotion is released.

Cuddly toy versions of the penguins, called Monty and Mabel, sold out within 24 hours of the advert being aired and some ended up being sold on eBay for as much as £500.

PlayWorks has been given the two large fibreglass copies, which were used in Nottingham’s John Lewis store, to sell to raise cash for the work they do with children and families around Nottingham.

Playworks is a resource centre which campaigns for children’s right to play indoors and outdoors, for free, in fun, safe, exciting ways.

The Monty and Mabel penguins are on sale on eBay until November 15 at 10pm.

This year’s much-anticipated John Lewis Christmas advert aims to help awareness of some of the million older people who will go for a month without speaking to anyone, to help raise money for Age UK charity.
