A man’s body has been found in the wreckage of a serious house fire.

It comes after fire crews were called out to the property on Austin Close in Mansfield in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

After putting out the fierce blaze fire crews spent two days combing the rubble with the occupant unaccounted for.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “The body of a man has been recovered from the scene of a house fire in Mansfield.

“The body was recovered late on Friday evening at a house on the corner of Austin Close and Sanders Avenue following the fire on Wednesday afternoon. The circumstances of the fire are still under investigation.”

The man’s identity has not yet been confirmed and a cause of death has also not yet been determined.

Crews said on Thursday the search operation could take two to three days. The cause of the blaze is also still not clear.
