A man from Sneinton has been fined more than £400 for not having his dog on a lead in a controlled area in Nottingham.
Craig Thompson, 41 from Loughborough Avenue, was seen walking his pet in Sneinton Dale in December last year.
Dogs must be on a lead in the area as part of a Dales Dog Control Order introduced in autumn 2014.
Thompson’s fixed penalty notice remained unpaid and he was fined in his absence at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court.
He was fined £200 with £226 of costs and a victim surcharge of £20.
Councillor Nicola Heaton, Portfolio Holder for Community Services at Nottingham City Council said: ” These orders are put in place to encourage responsible dog ownership and help keep our communities safe and clean”.
The Dales Dog Control Order has various elements aimed at tackling irresponsible pet ownership, and one part, the Dogs On Lead Order, requires that they have to be on leads at all times on streets within the Dales ward.
Other parts require dogs being exercised off a lead in parks and on green spaces to be put on a lead if requested by an authorised officer. They must also be on leads at all times in Windmill Park, and are banned from certain areas of Colwick Woods Park nature reserve.
The order was introduced following a number of incidents in Sneinton involving dogs being off the lead and out of control, including some attacks.
It followed a public consultation in May last year which showed an overwhelming majority in favour of the order being brought in.
