Dougie Freedman bemoans lack of firepower as Ipswich clash looms

Dougie Freedman says Nottingham Forest are still ‘desperately’ trying to sign attacking midfielder Andre Moritz.

After a long unbeaten run between November and February, the Red have now lost three in a row.

They crashed to a 2-1 defeat against Bristol City last weekend but on Saturday travel to Portman Road to face an Ipswich side still chasing the play-offs – and Freedman says extra firepower could help revive form.

He has been closing on the signing of Moritz, who has previous experience of the Championship with Crystal Palace and Bolton.

Dougie is looking to sign the Brazilian for the third time in his managerial career.

We’re desperately trying to do it

He said: “He’s a player I know very well and I know what a wonderful gifted player he is. I became aware to me that he’d left his club. Unfortunately it’s still with the governing bodies to see if he can sign for us.

“We’re desperately trying to do it, it’s a position we need but at this moment it’s with FIFA and the English FA to find out if we can have the go-ahead.”

Ryan Mendes and Oliver Burke could return to inject some much needed pace back into the Forest side which has been lacking in cutting edge in recent weeks.

Ipswich’s main threat is likely to come from last season’s Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy, who scored home and away against the Reds last season.

He has not been as prolific this time out but Matt Mills and Michael Mancienne in particular will look to shackle the Ireland international.
