“Our family can’t be at peace”: Niece of Notts woman missing for a decade makes emotional appeal

The niece of a missing Nottinghamshire woman has made an emotional appeal for new witnesses a decade after her disappearance.

Police say Karen Black, from Worksop, went missing from Cleethorpes sometime between Thursday November 9 and Friday November 10 2006.

Notts Police launched a murder inquiry in July this year, with support from Humberside Police, after a review of long-term missing person cases in Nottinghamshire.

Karen was 36 when she disappeared and was last seen around the Lincolnshire seaside town, where she had been staying in a guest house after travelling there by train.

Four men, aged 40, 54, 45 and 58 all from the Cleethorpes area, were arrested over the summer on suspicion of murder but all were released without charge.

In a new video appeal released on Wednesday, Roxanne Davis says her aunt was “full of life, funny and really caring.”

She said: “She loved her family, she loved Christmas. She was a bit of a wild child but really family-orientated”.

Asking for anyone with information to come forward, she added: “Just let us know, it’s unfair, we can’t live our life not knowing what’s happened.

“My nan is in her 60s now, she doesn’t know what’s happened to her daughter. If someone knows something, they should help the police with their investigation.”

Detective Inspector Andy Bateman of Notts Police said: “The arrests have identified further lines of enquiry which are now being pursed.

“This is a heart-breaking appeal from a girl who loved her aunt very much and I’m now appealing to the people of Cleethorpes within this tight-knit community because I do believe that someone somewhere has that piece of information that could provide the assistance we need and subsequently the closure for the family.

“I really would encourage anyone to ring in no matter how small the detail may be and use the Crimestoppers number if you need to.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nottinghamshire or Humberside Police on 101 quoting incident 502 of November 8.

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
