Kirkby community centre’s minibus attacked by arsonists two days in a row

A community bus described as a ‘lifeline’ to elderly and disabled people was set on fire twice in the space of two days.

The minibus belonged to Our Centre, a charity from Kirkby-in-Ashfield which provides people with transport to hospital appointments, community events and holidays.

The first attack happened while the bus was parked on Ashwood Avenue at 12.30pm on Wednesday, October 12, while the driver was eating lunch.

It was attacked again the following evening at around 11.30pm after it had been left parked to be taken away by the insurers.

Angie Peppard, works for Our Centre, and told Notts TV News the arson attacks had already had a “massive impact” on the charity’s work.

She added: “The buses are the only way most of our patients can get to appointments and we’ve had to let people down.

“The police have sent out an appeal for information today.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Notts Police on 101 quoting incident 329 of October, 12 or 13.

The attack follows an incident in Arnold where vandals set fire to a children’s play park at George V Recreation Ground, on Standhill Road, on Saturday, September 8.

Gedling Borough Council responded by putting up a £1,000 reward for any information which helps catch those responsible.
