A bored Nottingham prisoner turned creative – turning a coffee cup into a model of a person which they left for officers to find.

The figure was photographed in a custody suite cell and tweeted by PC Adam Pace on Sunday, who said: “Something someone left for us. I can’t decide if this is brilliant or not.”

An unnamed prisoner appears to have spent some time crafting the cup into a face, body, arms and legs, fitted together using slots broken into the material.

The ‘gift’ appears to have been made at the Bridewell Custody Suite in the city centre, next to Nottingham Magistrates Court.

The cell complex is Nottingham’s main official holding point for people under arrest.

Twitter users even began to dream up names for the creation.

Eddie Dillon said: “I know her – it’s Polly Styreen.”
