People and organisations across Nottinghamshire will come together to show support and pride for our armed forces over the next week.
Events are taking place for Armed Forces Week and both the city and county are hosting several events.
The Armed Forces Day flag will be flown at County Hall, alongside the River Trent, for one week – including on national Armed Forces Day itself, Saturday, June 25.
On Monday a formal launch will be held at County Hall, West Bridgford, with the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Royal British Legion and representatives from Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council.
The ceremony will be attended by the county’s Seat Cadet, Army Cadet and Air Training Corps, as well as Deputy Lord Lieutenant Michael Rowen, with a fanfare provided by trumpeter Paul Thomas from the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers.
On Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26, Wollaton Hall and Deer Park will hold the East Midlands flagship Armed Forces event, with a weekend of arena displays, re-enactments and a parachute and infantry regiment exhibit.
Similar events, ranging from tea parties to big band concerts, will take place across the UK enabling people to commend and support both Armed Forces personnel and their families.
Nottinghamshire County Council chairman, Cllr Yvonne Woodhead, said: “The UK Armed Forces defend our country and its interests every day of the year.
“They are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism.
“I know that the people of Nottinghamshire are right behind them – whether they be serving troops and their families, reservists, veterans or cadets.”
She added: “We owe them a huge debt of gratitude and events like Armed Forces Day give us a great opportunity to express our pride and say thank you for the difficult job they do on our behalf.”
